Acceptability

Acceptability refers to meeting the policymakers, end-users, and health system requirements for a new TB vaccine for adults and adolescents. This includes defining values from various populations, engaging communities as partners in decision-making, and having robust communication strategies in place. This follows from the WHO global framework for country introduction of new adolescent and adult TB vaccines (https://www.who.int/publications/m/item/who-global-framework-to-prepare-for-country-introduction-of-new-tb-vaccines-for-adults-and-adolescents)

Insights into TB vaccine acceptability among adolescents in Khayelitsha through community engagement

Initially designed as an internal assessment of the impact of engagement workshops, we used short surveys to understand high-school learner perspectives of vaccines, focusing on COVID 19, TB and HIV vaccines. Between 2022 and 2024, we collected responses from 350 adolescents (14-18 years old). All participants live in Khayelitsha, where high rates of TB (4224 cases notified in the last year) intersect with socio-economic challenges

An effective vaccine is only the first step: the need to create and sustain demand for TB vaccines

Understanding public willingness to receive new TB vaccines, as well as defining how to address any barriers to acceptance, will be key to ensuring that the promise of these vaccines can be fully realized. Although we can learn from previous vaccine intro ductions, it is imperative we close key research gaps specific to new TB vaccines. This will inform the development of interventions to generate and sustain high demand for TB vaccines in communities that stand to benefit the most

Bridging the gap: evaluating high TB burden country data needs to support the potential introduction of TB vaccines for adolescents and adults: a workshop report

A workshop to asked high TB burden country experts about what epidemiological, impact, feasibility and acceptability data they anticipated they would need to guide TB vaccine introduction.

An urgent call for increased global investment and political support for TB vaccine R&D. With the United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB taking place on 22 September 2023, this call will play an important part in amplifying the voices of the global TB community in demanding new TB vaccines. This letter is also in direct support of the recently launched call to action ‘Deadly Divide: Priorities to Close the Deadly Divide’ from the Stop TB Partnership community and non-governmental organization delegations.

ACEITar: Evaluation of the acceptability of new and repurposed tuberculosis vaccines in Mozambique

Our study provides crucial information for implementing novel TB vaccines in specific target groups and on country specific acceptability and feasibility. Key groups for vaccine implementation in these settings were identified, and should be included in clinical trials and implementation planning.

Mapping the existing body of knowledge on new and repurposed TB vaccine implementation: A scoping review

By synthesizing the existing body of knowledge, this review offers comprehensive insights into the current state of research on implementation of these TB adults and adolescent vaccines. Offering insights into key dimensions: (1) epidemiological impact, (2) costing, cost-effectiveness, and/or economic impact, (3) acceptability, and the (4) feasibility of implementation; this includes implementation strategies of target populations, and health system capabilities.
