A qualitative study that aims to understand to perceptions and attitudes regarding TB, TB vaccines, and participation in TB vaccine trials among persons deprived of liberty (PDR) in Brazil.

Financing and policy innovation to advance TB vaccines through licensure: A G20 policy proposal

The authors developed two T20 policy briefs proposing recommendations to enhance G20 leadership and bring TB vaccines through licensure: Investment Toolbox to Advance TB Vaccine R&D through Joint Action (2023); and Elevating Leadership of HBC G20 States in TB Vaccine R&D and Delivery (2024). The briefs were informed by extensive literature research and aligned with global initiatives for TB and TB vaccine R&D.

A scoping literature review is underway to identify key principles and strategies from existing vaccine allocation frameworks. The review focuses on vaccines utilized in routine and emergency contexts, including malaria, COVID-19, dengue, and meningococcal vaccines, among others.

Nutritional status is a leading risk factor for tuberculosis (TB). In India up to half of all TB episodes are attributed to undernutrition. Given the impact of nutrition on the immune system, vaccine characteristics such as efficacy and duration of protection could vary depending on nutritional status. Therefore, previous vaccine impact estimates may be overestimated. We re estimated vaccine impact in India with reduced efficacy with undernutrition

Tuberculosis (TB) vaccine efficacy trials evaluating prevention of disease must be feasible in size and duration and would ideally take place at clinical trial sites that enroll from communities with the highest incidence rates. In preparation for the Phase 3 trial of the investigational M72/AS01E-4 vaccine, we conducted a multi-country study, using interferon gamma release assay (IGRA) positivity as a proxy for expected incidence of TB. In addition to the above objects, the results from this study could help in in new vaccine introduction to identfy TB hotspot areas.

Lessons from a decade of adult vaccine rollout in low- and middle-income countries: A scoping review

This is an NIH-funded study which will estimate the health impact of introducing a prevention of disease vaccine for adult and adolescents in moderate to high TB burden countries. We are developing model scenarios based on input from country stakeholders, including national TB program and immunization program officials.
