Supporting countries with prioritization of new vaccine introductions (NVI) and portfolio optimization

Support countries with using multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) for prioritization of new vaccine introductions (NVI) (including new TB vaccines) and portfolio optimization, embedded in the NIS development process. The project's key questions are: 1. How can we best support countries with NVI including new TB vaccine prioritization regarding access to evidence, tools, technical support? 2. What criteria do countries use when prioritizing NVIs? 3. How to best align NVI prioritization with the NIS development process.

Impact of targeted tuberculosis vaccination among a mining population in South Africa: A model based study

We developed an individual-based TB transmission model representing a hypothetical population consisting of people who worked in South African gold mines or lived in associated labor-sending communities. We simulated the implementation of a postinfection adult vaccine with 60% efficacy and a mean effect duration of 10 years.

This is a study funded by the American Lung Association which will explore the potential impact of targeted implementation of a prevention of disease vaccine in a low TB burden country, the U.S.A.

Investigate current TB prevention modalities vs vaccine. We lack understanding of preferences and trade offs people would be willing to make across a spectrum of issues related to study design, type of vaccines, how they are given, how often, where they are given, to whom, efficacy estimates and side effects etc.

Vaccines will be introduced in contexts where TPT already exists. Exploration of possible study designs, expected effectiveness, feasibility of integrated approaches is key.

This is a mixed-methods study collecting information on willingness to receive a new TB vaccine among adolescents, their caretakers, and adults in Mozambique, a high TB burden country, to assess potential barriers to high uptake of new TB vaccines.
